WALDO (CBSMiami/AP) — Prosecutors said they will not file criminal charges against the former chief of a Florida town who is accused of ordering officers to have a ticket quota.
State Attorney Bill Cervone announced the decision in a letter to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement after looking at an investigative report into Waldo’s police department and chief.
Waldo, a town between Jacksonville and Gainesville that is known as a notorious speed trap, disbanded its police department Oct. 1. The move came after allegations that the former chief illegally recorded conversations with an officer and instituted ticket quotas.
The Gainesville Sun reports that Cervone said that ticket quotas are not illegal in Florida and that no evidence existed of criminal wrongdoing in the recordings.
